Kook Both Ways
Is this an example of the city’s attempts to keep its Yiddish-speaking citizens safe when they cross the street (“Kook” is Yiddish for “Look,” the usual word spray-painted in SF crosswalks)…or a graffiti artist’s commentary on the eccentricity of San Francisco’s citizenry?
Seen on Folsom St. in the Mission.

Gandhi, Defaced
Seen in Wiese Alley in the Mission District of San Francisco. Not sure if the vandal doesn’t like Gamdhi, or just wanted a place to tag.

Payphone: Free Call to God
Seen on a pay phone at the CalTrain station in San Francisco: Apparently you can now call God (or a bank) for free. There were too many drunk Giants fans swarming the station, so I didn’t stick around and make a toll-free call to God…but if anyone else has gotten through to the Divine on this pay phone, I’d love to hear how your call went!

Leather Family Values
One of the earliest and most popular uses of photography continues to be among the most common. Snap! This is a family photo. Here’s to chosen family! And to photography…the truths it reveals and the lies it tells. Sometimes, it is more important that a story be interesting than completely accurate….

SOMA Clouds
There are particularly beautiful clouds over the Bay Area this morning… Here’s a shot of some clouds over San Francisco’s SOMA (South of Market) district this morning.

Shoes over the Armory
A pair of shoes strung over a wire above the old Armory building in the Mission (now home to kink.com studios), with a San Francisco flag waving in the background. I’m not sure whose idea it was to throw the first pair of shoes over a high wire, but it now seems to be a trend, of sorts. Urban art, perhaps? Not sure if this qualifies, but I thought it was worth posting.
