From a Japanese TV game show: competitive acrobatic testicle-whacking for fun and profit. Not actually gay in its cultural context, certainly it is homoerotic to our quirky eyes. Via 15 Association Fraternal JB. Thanks! Dedicated to Big Gay Al, who digs this kind of thing. Don’tcha, Al? Thwack! For the video clip of these guys in action, click here. Translation of text in upper left? More context? It would be much appreciated!
The west coast’s premier private club for men into S/m and Leathersex turns thirty-two years old this weekend. That is older than some of our members. The club is celebrating with a gala dinner on Friday night and a weekend of parties in San Francisco. Thanks to the Italian American Social Club for providing a wonderful venue for the dinner…it really took the Cake!
As many of The 15 Association brothers already know, it was announced by his family in Eureka, Jim & Mike (a.k.a. Duke), that Copper took his own life on Saturday, January 14. As some might not know, Copper suffered from a genetic autoimmune disease called idiopathic autoimmune hemolytic anemia, whereby his body would essentially attack itself. He was being treated medically for this condition, but still this disease left Copper in pain much of the time.
Copper did not leave any note, so his motives as to why he left us always will remain a mystery. Many of those closest to him made a pact to not second guess their own actions, try to figure out what more could have been done, or play the “what if game” in any way. Such thoughts will not change the present and feel counterproductive to the healing process. They can potentially cause angst and ongoing self-recrimination during what needs to be a time of reflection and caring. For those just learning of this news, please comfort and care for each other in the ways most fitting to yourself and your nature.
Copper will be deeply and sorely missed by the many souls he touched. He will be remembered fondly for his characteristic playfulness, his deep and thoughtful eyes, his hardworking nature, his impetuousness, the fierce loyalty he showed to those he considered family, and the fun-loving side of being a pup on all fours.
In remembrance and honor of Copper, Jim and Mike (Duke) will be hosting a Puppy Wake open to the public and predominantly, but not exclusively, for those in the broader Leather Community who wish to attend. The concept of a “Puppy Wake” is (coined by Master Jim) is to both honor and remember Copper in a upbeat way. It is based on the traditional Irish Wake, which is more of a party, and there will be a time set aside for people to share, either publicly or privately, fun stories or happy memories of Copper.
This is a social event intended to be a celebration of life. There will be music, perhaps DJ’d, and a place for pups to “pup out” if they wish to. This is gathering of brothers and friends. This is not a play party, however, so please keep any “non-puppy” toys in their bags. There is, of course, no cost to attend. There will be a “Wall of Memories” where people can write or draw anything they wish. If you have pictures or prewritten prose that you wish to bring and post on the paper wall, please do so. There will also be colored markers to write with at the event. The wake will be held:
Saturday February 25 – 1:00PM – 4:00PM – Mr. S Playspace, 385A Eighth Street, San Francisco (above the retail store, with entry to the left by 20 feet of main doors)
Estimated Timing for the Afternoon: 1-2PM Greet, Mingle, Socialize, Munch (watch for puppies under foot!) 2-3PM Public Voicing of Happy Memories (for those so inclined) 3-4PM Continued Socializing, Mingling, and Munching.
While this is begin held during The 15 Association’s Anniversary Weekend, it is not an official 15 event, and members are welcome to attend or not as they wish. Jim & Mike wish to thank Mr. S Leather for the donation of the space for the afternoon, the Leathermen’s Discussion Group for providing chairs and light snacks and beverages for the wake, and the San Francisco K9 Unit for their planning assistance.
…in which the Gay Highwaymen interview Marc “pony” Owens about race play. Owens is a well-known and respected player in Northern California. He is the outgoing Mr. Alameda County Leather, and active in the Golden Gate Guards and The 15 Association. Controversial even in hardcore Leather and Kink circles, race play brings up strong emotions in both those who practice it and those who criticize it. Owens plays that way…and speaks for himself.
G.H.: What is the appeal of race play for you?
M.p.O.: It brings out the submissive in me. White dominance over blacks: it’s almost the final frontier in tabu play.
G.H.: How did you get into it?
M.p.O.: Very slowly. I always had fantasies of it. It was either 1999 or 2000 when I met my Daddies in Berkeley while cruising online and we chatted about it through instant messenger. It was so hot I finally summoned the courage to meet with one of them and explore it. It was mind blowing!
G.H.: How does race play relate, and what are the differences and similarities, to racism and historical slavery?
M.p.O.: Well regarding racism and historical slavery…The similarity is the power exchange element of it. As a black submissive you are giving Whites power over you. Most submissives like being degraded and made to feel less than human next to their Dom. I’m just using historical slavery and racism to get to the extreme level of my kind of hardcore BDSM.
G.H.: How does it relate to Verbal Abuse, Humiliation, Degradation and Trash Talk?
Many submissives like being called “Bitch” “Whore” and other degrading names. Because the power in those words hits a chord with them and turns them on. To be called Coon, Monkey or the “N” word hits a chord with me and turns me on. To be humiliated and degraded because I’m black adds to and feeds my sexual desire. In race play the similarities are the same as any other type of S&M play it’s just the difference is I’m a black person in a mostly White dominated field of BDSM and that kind of puts me in that unique position to use race play to turn my TOP on and myself. The energy is amazing when you have two people who are really into it.
G.H.: And how does it relate to the Dom/sub dynamic?
M.p.O.: Since those types of relationships are based on the Top’s beliefs that the sub is not equal to them, that goes along with the White knowing he is superior to the black. It sweetens the pot in the relationship. Blacks who want to be submissive to Whites truly want to feel they are inferior to them. That puts them in the submissive headspace they need to be in.
Part II here. Part III coming soon…Comments are welcome.
All that hard play can be hard work, and the deeper it gets, the realer it becomes. From degradation to grace and back again, turning forever on itself like a mobius strip. Beat, Beat-Up, Beatitude: words to fly by from the jam-sweet lips of angel-headed hipsters. Top or bottom, sometimes retreat is a good option. For those times, just outside the dungeon (aka The Heart Lodge) mildly hidden in the landscaping, a small magical nishikigoi (koi) pond waits. A rock ledge provides enough room for a semi-lotus, and a fine venue for adventures in ego dissolution. Flash of Orange. Take me…OM…country roads…splash sky water…gone.
Friend of this site Jorge Vieto is featured in the short film Ritual, directed by Jorg Fockele. He hangs suspended by hooks, his body swinging free in a ritual of body/spirit integration. Vieto is a well-respected young Leatherman, and a Fraternal member of The 15 Association. He uses extreme physical rituals in part to process the emotions evoked by a positive diagnosis. Vieto spoke with Scott Brogan of the Bay Area Reporter about the psychology of the scene here.
Filmed in the Dungeon at Mr.S, Ritual will screen in the afternoon at 1:15 pm at the Castro Theater in San Francisco, Friday June 24th, as a part of the film compilation entitled STILL AROUND from The HIV Story Project. Brought to you by Frameline and the San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival.
