K9 Warning! Sight seen in Mendocino County.

20130214-153327.jpg
Sight seen outside a storage facility in Ukiah, in Mendocino County in Northern California. Back in the day, the NorCal economy was based on logging, plus fishing on the coast, some fruit and nut farming and some sheep and cattle ranching. Now, it’s vineyards in Marin, Sonoma and South Mendocino. Further north, Mendocino, Humboldt and Trinity counties comprise “the Emerald Triangle” – world-famous as a center of 420 culture, and prosperous due to an economy based on Marijuana cultivation.

What does THAT have to do with THIS photo? Let us translate. In the local jargon “This facility is used frequently as a training ground for law enforcement K-9 units” means “Don’t store your inventory here.” Word to the wise, no shit Sherlock and Duh! Enjoy your day and don’t let the doggies getcha!

Night Fountain…really. (NSFW)

NOT Gay. Just Happy…

Rainbow Ranch. Not Gay. Just Happy. Sight seen on CA State Hwy 16. But what does it MEAN? William Burroughs said that “language is a virus from outer space.” Well said, Bill! Wait… Did I say THAT?

Bay Area American Indian Two Spirits (BAAITS) 2nd Annual Two Spirit Powwow!

Powwow

You’re invited: Bay Area American Indian Two Spirits (BAAITS) 2nd Annual Two Spirit Powwow!

This year’s event will take place Saturday, February 2nd in Oakland, starting at noon. For directions and more information, visit the BAAITS website.

Last year’s groundbreaking powwow attracted over 500 people, and made history as the first and only public Two Spirit Powwow in the world.

A Powwow is a public gathering with Native dancing and drums, seeing friends and family. It is a cultural event, large and crowded at times, yet intimate. It holds a place in the hearts of the Native community, and BAAITS offering up this Powwow in the name of Two Spirit peoples is truly an honoring. The overwhelming response of our allies honors and recognizes the work and important role of the Two Spirit community.

We welcome all Two Spirit people as well as allies. Come one, come all. All dancers and Drums are invited to join us. Special dance categories this year will include a Switch Dance (Women take on the male roles, and vice-versa) and a Duct Tape Special, in which the dance regalia is made of duct tape and found objects. There will be contests for dancers, fry bread and Indian tacos, crafts and gifts for sale, a raffle, and most of all – community!

What happens when you win the Rat Race…

You win the rat race; you’re still a rat. But rats are after all successes of evolution. Cockroaches, too. Humans? An evolutionary blip. Hair today. Gone tamale. C’est la vie. C’est la Guerre. Tout le Monde manges pommes de terre. Sight seen at Stanford University. Thanks, A.

Humboldt Stickers

Stickers seen in the window of a surf shop in Garberville, in south Humboldt County in Northern California. Together with Trinity and Mendocino counties, the region is known as “the Emerald Triangle” after the crop that has replaced logging and fishing as the main industries.

Indian Dick and Hell Hole are WAY too Hot…

20120830-171014.jpg
Cal Fire reports that Indian Dick Road and the Hell Hole trailhead are among the areas that have been evacuated in the 36,000+ acre North Pass Fire. This brave fireman is among the 1,700 fighting the blaze…and looking hot doing it. No loss of human life so far. Here’s hoping all the heroes on the frontlines come home safe.

SF Eagle to Re-Open!?

It’s been over a year now, and the City of San Francisco has been without one of its iconic Leather bars, The SF Eagle. This site’s most popular post ever heralded its loss. In a city where real estate is at a premium, the expansive patio had for years provided a big outdoor space where Old Leather and New Gear, club brothers and Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Queers of all spots and stripes and even friendly str8 hipsters and visiting moms could all relax, if not quite mix. For the last year, a group of die-hards has occupied other bars for monthly Eagle in Exile events. Now, it seems, the bar is set to re-open…under gay ownership. There has been a lot of weird back-room politics on this one, and there was a moment when it appeared that the place would be delivered to straights. And now?

The New SF Eagle states on their website:

“It will take a couple of months to do the much-needed repairs and upgrades that the property requires, but some upcoming events are already in the works prior to the opening of the bar. Please check this website periodically for new announcements coming soon.

The bar and patio located at 398 12th Street has long been a special place, not only to the LGBT community, but to the entire community for decades, not to mention the live music community as well. We just couldn’t let such a historic place like this disappear!

We will continue to host fundraisers for all the organizations from the past, as well as welcoming new ones to make the S.F. Eagle the pride of our community once again.

We look forward to seeing all of you very soon!”

Well…Cool! Looking forward to the re-opening with (guarded) optimism!
