New Orleans’ Cafe Lafitte in Exile is the oldest gay bar in the country. It was once Tennessee Williams’ favorite watering hole. Located at 901 Bourbon Street in the Quarter, it is the destination for getting rid of all the beads collected in the carnivalesque rush toward Mardi Gras. Getting a spot close to the railing can be a challenge, but there’s some good show-offs in the bar as well.
